Tractors that work
In order to facilitate working on the land and maneauvering hay for the cattle we needed to step up to a larger more powerful tractor. After much research we decided on a John Deere 4120 turbocharged diesel tractor. For smaller jobs we still have a Ford New Holland 1715 which runs as good as day one when we bought it.

Portability
Getting around the farm is made easy with the use of our John Deere Gator 6x4 diesel. Whether you're going through pastures, woods, mud or water it makes getting there a lot easier.

Supporting cast
Although the tractors get the credit for finishing the job, the real tools are what's attached or drug behind them. Some of our most important implements are:

  • Front-end bucket and hay spear
  • Bushhogs
  • Cultivating discs and pasture drag
  • Box blade scraper and rear bucket
How to get around
Here is the workhorse of the farm, a 2005 Ford F350 CrewCab Dually with the 6.0 turbo diesel motor. Although still a baby, it has proved to be a much better riding, hauling and handling truck than the 1997 Ford it replaced. Here you can see it pulling 16 rolls of hay with a 32ft tag trailer. You can see more pictures in the album.

How to get stuff hauled
The other workhorse is our 32ft flatbed trailer that carries everything from 16 rolls of hay to race cars on their way to the dragstrip.

Garage Mahal?
Our latest project is the building of a 42' x 60' Morton building which will house the vehicles, tractors and be the new home of Holmstead Motorsports. Features include full height 14' sliding doors at each end, a 10' overhead door on the side as well as aa 10k pound lift and covered porch. Be sure to check back often as we complete work on the electrical and other refinements in what will be a huge asset to the farm for years to come.

Back in the day
Here is where the rest of the other equipment is stored along with all of our hay storage needs. We built this pole barn by hand back in 1998 prior to having a house or even electricity on the property. Our goal was to construct something that looks like it was built in the late 1800's and so far it has weathered very well standing up to numerous tropical disturbances including a few hurricanes with little to no ill-effects.
